The purpose of changing JW names, titles and terms
by gingerbread induring a discussion over the weekend, we exchanged ideas about recent changes in terminology related to assembly days, conventions and new titles for the higher-ups.
i commented that for years in 'security' at larger meetings we were told to talk to any that seemed out of place and ask questions that would indicate if they were apostates - antiquated terms like 'overseer' or a reference the 'truth' book.. another in our group brought up the character in the orwell book 1984 and how his job was to separate new and approved terms from old words.
this was called doublethink and blackwhite.

WT March 2014 : "Let your yes be a yes, but your UBM's no is not a no"
by The Song Remains The Same inwife has gone out to the kh this a.m., so i thought i'd balance the world karma by reading jwn, and then looked on jw.borg to see if the stats are up yet.
they weren't so i check out the latest study edition as i promised her i would mark one up in all sorts of colours to show the various techniques employed to guide jw's.... anyway, i noticed the contradiction in the two articles; "your speechyes and yet no?
" and "reaching the heart of unbelieving relatives" where in the first they are saying if you say yes, mean it, or if you say no, mean it.

BBC article - Waiting patiently for the end of the world
by The Song Remains The Same innot sure if this was posted already.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-ouch-24642553.
waiting patiently for the end of the worldcolin hambrook is a poet and visual artist with mental health difficulties and me.
he runs disability arts online (dao) a web portal for disabled artists which reviews and showcases their work.. in hambrook's latest autobiographical project, knitting time, he recalls being brought up by a jehovah's witness mother who was mentally ill. she, hambrook and the other jehovah's witnesses they knew, believed that the world was due to end in 1975. this collection of illustrated poetry, and the accompanying art exhibition, explore the psychosis and grief he experienced as a result.. why did you call it knitting time?.

Reverse Witnessing Idea...
by The Song Remains The Same inreading a couple of threads here about how to handle jw's when they try to witness to you, i was wondering if anyone had tried to give an everyday situation example with a couple of choices to a jw and asked them what the right answer is.
then when they have picked, show them that the wt would have given the other, more shocking, answer.
well.... let's say john works someplace, and finds out that there is criminal activity going on.

If you DF/DA are you then apostate? Just checking...
by The Song Remains The Same ini listened to the 'human apostate' speech and have to say i was pretty appalled by the methods used to draw their conclusions on how to spot & act towards apostates.
i've never been in a kh and so never had the pleasure of hearing anything like that.
what got me was the way they defined apostates as basically "people who don't agree with us", and then went on to put apostates in a class along with people who have a "deadly contagious disease", and people who are "mentally ill" - thus (loosely) implying that mental illness is contagious, so stay away our you will catch it!
